So there I am browsing the giant cardies, they have grey, dark blue and black or else shocking PINK – wargh. I am pondering the gray one, which strangely is size 18 but is miniscule and thus I am confused by the insane New Look sizing policy. The shop kiddy comes over and asks if I need help, I say no thanks, just looking, to which she launches into a long discussion:

her: I can tell by looking at you that I bet you always wear dark colours, you should try a bright colour

me: err no thanks

her: I just say things as they are, it is because you don’t like being noticed?

me: errrr…. (my brain is telling me to flee but I do actually want to buy the cardy)

her: it would look good with a white vest underneath, don’t you like bright colours?

me: errrr……I’m probably going to wear it for work… so it will go with my other stuff (why am I engaging her in conversation?!!?)

the conversation then strays onto

her: you could wear this with leggings, I liked leggings when I was pregnant, have you tried them?

me: (does she think I’m pregnant?! my coat does look a bit lumpy I suppose….) “Um I probably last wore leggings when I was 8 – ie in the 1980’s”

her: blabber blabber, you could wear it with nice heels on a night out, you’re not that old so you could still wear leggings….

me: (buying cardy and desperately trying to flee new look…) aaaaaaaaaargh

Have decided to use them to send stuff to people via http://www.postpals.co.uk which is a way of sending letters / gifts etc to poorly kids. Am making it my 2010 resolution to try and send something each month to a different kid.
