Well, I’ve added comments… I have no idea why… it actually took a lot of effort and there was some trouble with using the wrong type of apostrophe and wondering what a div is and things like that. I may go to bed now to recover.

Annabel Karmel - baby food guru →
Everyone seems to be making things from her books… I’m combining this with feeding Sprog the same stuff we eat (also known as leftovers) maybe I should write a book? It would say: Make your dinner, don’t add loads of salt/crud/bad stuff - eat it, feed Sprog the rest. If anyone wants to expand on this and make it to the best seller list feel free…

Guildford
Me: Shall we go to Guildford?
Sprog: Gloom
Me: I'll get stuff ready then...
Sprog: Staring
Me: Have gathered requisite 842 separate items in changing bag
Sprog: I'm asleep
Me: Gets coffee and biscwee and has a sit down instead

Gangsta?!
We’ve just bought Sprog a ‘Playa Highchair’ from Babies R Us, actually it is excellent, folds flat, not too many crevices for manky bits of rusk to get stuck in… plus a basket for stashing things underneath. I’m not so keen on the name though ‘Playa’… it reminds me of gangster rap, perhaps Sprog’s first word will be ‘Yo’?

Oh well...
Apparently Dylon dye isn’t safe for dying baby stuff… I think my next pet project will be seeing if I can turn a whole muslin orange with only baby food… now there’s a challenge…

Work worries
5 weeks left until I’ll be back at my desk… things that trouble me: Will Sprog survive nursery? Will I survive putting Sprog in nursery? Will my work clothes fit? Where are my work clothes? Will I remember where my desk is? I think I forgot my passwords? Where’s my door pass? How will i get to work on time now that everything takes 8 times as long? What if I...

If you can't beat 'em join 'em
Somehow everybody else keeps their muslins in a state of glowing brilliant white. Ours are dingy grey and orange (due to scary baby food). No more though - I have bought some orange dye. Ha! No more stained muslins now!

No!
I notice people saying no to their sprogs quite a lot, despite the poor child not knowing what the no-ing is all about. Sprog benefits from my general inability to say no unless it’s an extreme case… ie hair pulling, specs stealing, eye poking etc. I suppose the concerns you have when they’re very tiny go away but are replaced by other different problems, like whether to bother...

Mouli
So far pleased with the mouli thing… although it takes an awful lot of turning to get food to a mush consistency. Housewives in past times must have been much stronger than I am, heaven knows how I’d cope with mangling sheets, stoking fires and riding to the shops on my penny farthing. Ha ha…

Don't read if squeamish
Honestly… if finding fully formed sticks of courgette in a nappy (not ones stuffed into it by sprog) I mean bits of food that have made the hazardous journey through the digestive tract, if that might make you hurl then don’t read this. Oops - too late.

Sad
Went to town today, walked past Greggs where several people were sitting eating while surrounded by a small flock of pigeons. There were two pigeons which at first seemed to be either mating or fighting, but on a closer look were actually stuck together somehow. The poor things were obiously in distress and had been there for some time while people just sat watching as if it was nothing to do with...

Fraught in Fleet
I’m not sure why, but invariably whenever we have the nerve to visit Fleet Sprog’s delicate equilibrium is upset. This time there was a ‘power pee’ which burst through the nappy leaving both of us soggy. Apparently Starbucks’ baby change facilities are not acceptable so crying ensued. Sprog had a change of clothes, I remained soggy for the duration. On a previous...

Burtjunior
Burt is still a firm favourite in our house. In the morning he entertains Sprog with a nursery rhyme, and through the day he reads me the news and weather plus some other bits and bobs. Sprog loves watching Burt do tai-chi and hearing his random moods, usually something silly about his ears being too heavy. In the future I can see Burtjunior being a useful parenting tool, he can read out...

In own room
Sprog spent last night in his own room! After all the faffing I finally got organised enough to get the cot moved and the black-out linings hung. There was no real complaining from Sprog thankfully. I now have to try and stop calling it the spare room though.

Hare brained idea?
When I was about to release Sprog into the world, there was talk of cord banking as a kind of safety net in case of future illness. While looking at Sprogs bonce the other day I suddenly thought “what if he goes bald?”. Husband’s family don’t seem to be follically challenged but we’re not sure about my side. It occurred to me that perhaps I should bank some hair for...

Doing things properly
Went for coffee with a couple of friends with babies the same age as Sprog. It’s always good to see them as they’re great at “Doing Things Properly” and have all the proper baby-wrangling equipment. Other people always seem to know how to deal with the practical issues, such as, what the heck do you do with all this pureed food when you go away? It reminds me of copying...
